With viable goalkeeping options thin on the ground at Villa Park these days, young Greek goalkeeper Vasilios Barkas has emerged as a potential target for the West Midlands club according to the Birmingham Mail.
The 21-year-old shot-stopper who currently plys his trade for Greece top tier side Atromitos, was highlighted during a Greek Under 21 international match by one of Villa’s scouting team this year.
And the youngster, who is said to have a very bright future in the game, could be on his way to Villa Park this summer with the club on the hunt for a keeper with potential that can be moulded into a reliable number one between the sticks for years to come.
With relegation to the second tier of English football more or less certain now for Aston Villa, 6’4 keeper Barkas could be the answer with high-earners Brad Guzan and Mark Bunn likely to be shown the exit door in an attempt to rebuild our shattered club in the Championship.
